Forestburgh Theatre Arts Center announces SEUSSICAL as its 2010 YAFF production

Performances every Thursday and Saturday at 11 AM through August 14th

This summer, the Forestburgh Theatre Arts Center (FTAC) at the Forestburgh Playhouse will bring to the stage the imaginative SEUSSICAL, the musical based on the works of the beloved Dr. Seuss. Audiences will follow the story of Horton the Elephant as he faces a double adventure – he must protect his tiny friend Jojo and the invisible Whos from a world of dangers and he must guard an abandoned egg, left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping, and a trial, yet his intrepid friend Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him and is the only one who recognizes “his kind and his powerful heart.” Narrated by the Cat in the Hat, the story is about the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community who are challenged but ultimately, emerge triumphant.

Following the success of Disney’s High School Musical, the Playhouse has decided to concentrate its efforts on a single show to run all summer long that is appealing to young audiences. As part of its educational theatre outreach, the production features a number of local young actors who work alongside the professionals and gain valuable professional experience. J.R. Goodman, Jennifer Brescia, Quincy Confoy, and Ariana Sepulveda are among the local high school and college students participating. The leading role of Jojo is shared by two local elementary school actresses who appear in alternating performances: Rebecca Bass Rock Hill and Zoe Gronner of Middletown. FTAC strives to nurture the development of local talent and continues to focus on reaching out to the community.

Associate Managing Director Sarah Norris, who is also the director of SEUSSICAL, said, “I can’t stress enough the importance of working with young artists and providing them a safe environment. I feel it is my responsibility as a professional to guide these kids and encourage them as they grow. It is thrilling to watch as they learn to take risks and express themselves in their own individual ways.”

The Forestburgh Playhouse Box Office is open daily from 12 noon to 8 PM, and tickets can be purchased by calling ) 794-1194. Ticket prices are $10 for children, and $20 for adults, and group rates are available. For more information, the Playhouse web site is www.fbplayhouse.com
