River Trips Will Not be Affected by the Pond Eddy Bridge Repair

Thursday, 21 April 2011 By

Sean McGuinness, Superintendent of Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River, announced today that boaters on the Delaware River will still be able to enjoy a river trip during the Pond Eddy Bridge repair, April 11, 2011 through September 30, 2011.  “Boaters will be able to travel under the bridge during the repairs”, commented McGuinness.  “The bridge’s center pier forms two river channels.  Each span on the bridge will be repaired separately.  Only the channel below the construction will be closed.  One channel of the river will always be open.”

The Pond Eddy Bridge will be undergoing emergency repair operations.  As part of those repair operations there will be scaffolding suspended by cables 15’ below the bridge creating a potential hazard for boaters traveling under the bridge.  To ensure visitor safety the section of river channel flowing under the span of Pond Eddy Bridge that is under repair will be closed to public use for a distance of 500’ upstream and downstream of the bridge.  The construction zone will be marked by buoys and signs directing boaters not to travel under the span of bridge under construction and to use the open channel.

It’s been raining since Sunday here in the Sullivan County Catskills, but the forecast calls for bright sun and 60s on Columbus Day Weekend. Mother nature’s been busy painting her fall portrait and there’s lots in store for leaf peepers this weekend inside and out. Kick off the weekend in Callicoon with an eclectic acoustic performance by 3 O’Clock Pot Luck at 7 pm at the Cafe Devine on Friday, Oct. 8. There’s another intimate performance in the Events Gallery at Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, this one is Saturday, Oct 9 at 7 pm, featuring Rhett Miller, whose solo career captured attention with such subjects as fatherhood and love. You can taste some Italian Wines on Saturday at the Callicoon Wine Merchant from 2-5 and while you’re there you can check out William Landau’s opening exhibit “Letter.” There’s a pumpkin party too, this weekend in Callicoon for the kids at 3 pm and the Delaware Valley Depot. Fly Fishing more your fancy? The public is welcome to attend the Fly Fishing H all of Fame Dinner, Saturday at 3pm at Kings Catering Hall in Livingston Manor.
